ANNOUNCEMENT: THEMES WILL NOW BE REMOVED WITH ADVERTISEMENT TAMPERING All efforts have been made to inform everyone that has posted Themes with AD tampering codes to edit their themes and remove the portion of the code that applys to the ads. This has included repeated ANNOUNCEMENTS, warning notices attached to many theme threads and/or numerous PM requests. No further announcements, notices or warnings will be forthcoming. This group has done all that it can to inform all current and future members that we must comply with Multiply's TERMS. SEE THIS THREAD WITH THE ASSOCIATED LINKS If you are using a theme from this group, verify that the ads are operable and there are no ad tampering codes. You can not only suffer loss of feature use and/or your account with a theme coded to affect the ADS but if you share a theme like this, you can cause someone else considerable issues as well. If you are using a theme from this (or any) group as YOUR template for themes you use or share both here and elsewhere, make SURE you know what you are using and posting. Understand the code and what each section of code is for. Not all themes include /*statement codes*/ that designate the portion of code that tampers with the ADS. In accordance with the TERMS OF SERVICE, any theme found to have code that tampers with the ads will be removed without warning. This includes hiding, softening, obcuring, removing, disabling or otherwise tampering to render the ads ineffective. This applies to all themes with or without /*statement codes*/ that refer to the ads. If the theme has tampered with the ADS, it must be deleted. Some themes state the ad tampering section but some don't. Please review all of your posted themes and/or any theme you are using that you did not create yourself. EVERY GROUP AND SITE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLY WITH MULTIPLY'S TERMS OF SERVICE AND EVERY GROUP'S ADMINS ARE REQUIRED TO ENFORCE THIS SECTION OF TERMS. "....blocks, removes or otherwise obscures the display of advertisements that appear on Multiply, or attempts to do so;.."
Thank you for your cooperation and please continue to help keep Multiply a safe place for everyone.
Themes are being created from base theme codes by putting a base theme's css code in it's ENTIRETY in a text editor and then just making the wanted changes in the entire code. (Which might just be one small change). Then the ENTIRE theme's code (altered and unaltered sections) is being pasted in the CSS EDITOR. This is the incorrect way to use this feature.
You don't need to install the base theme code into the CSS Editor box because it's already installed. You just don't see the code in your CSS Editor box. It's installed behind the scenes for you already. That's why you already have a theme showing which is the base theme you chose.
The CSS Editor Feature here was added for users to put SECTIONS OF EDITED code to override sections of base theme css code (for those sections allowed) to give a site a different look or feel. It was not designed to paste in code that a base theme ALREADY has installed when you initially choose the base theme that your customized theme will be designed from. This is why you MUST first choose your base theme. To install a certain amount of criteria and instructions automatically to display this base theme before/if you make any further alterations or customizations. Now that theme designing has become so prevalent, both for the user and to share with others in theme groups, it has been discovered that themes are being designed by posting both EDITED and UNEDITED (ALREADY INSTALLED WHEN YOU CHOSE YOUR BASE THEME) code to be pasted into the CSS EDITOR (Giving the appearance of the entire code for a theme)
This is incorrect, and is not only the wrong way to do it but can cause code not to pass validation or theme/site/feature issues that can't be resolved until code passes validation or completely removed.
Even worse - people are altering others' theme codes, which can be wrong or have errors and then sharing and using a theme full of errors.
The CORRECT way to use the CSS EDITOR feature is to put in only the EDITED code (code that is altered from the base theme code). A theme with few changes will be a short theme code. Maybe only a few lines long. A more complicated theme with many changes will be lengthy. Do not include the unedited code. It's already installed when you chose your base theme. You will notice that when you install a customized theme, you are required to choose a designated base theme that code is edited specifically for THAT base theme. This installs the default code for that base theme automatically.
Please remember when posting and using a theme, that you ONLY need the EDITED portion of CSS (altered from what the base theme has already installed) pasted in the CSS EDITOR.
Now that Multiply has installed a code validator (see the checkbox under your CSS EDITOR), paste in only your EDITED code, and validate it first. You can bypass the validation but AT YOUR OWN RISK. You will notice that the validator will tell you if you have errors and what those errors are. If you still need assistance in correcting a code error, you may post in notes at multiplydesign . These groups, muds, usersupport, and customizedthemes are not CSS and Customization support groups. You can paste the snippet of code that will not validate and we will assist you at multiplydesign. (Please do not post your entire css there since we can see your css by going to your site) You can post a snippet of code that won't validate though.
I hope that this information will clear up what appears to be a misunderstanding of how to make, use and share a theme.
IF YOU USE UNVALIDATED CODE and you have any feature issues, USER SUPPORT will not be able to assist with your feature issues unless your css code validates or you remove your css before you ask your question there.
If a customized theme from a theme group does not validate, you will need to use another theme and contact the theme author to correct and validate their theme before sharing.
REMEMBER: THE CSS EDITOR FEATURE HERE IS AN EDITOR AND NOT DESIGNED FOR THE ENTIRE BASE CODE THEME. ONLY THE EDITED PORTIONS FOR A THEME.
When you make a theme to share, you only need to post this edited portion up as the theme's code. When you state the base theme to install from, the user has then already installed the base code. It is recommended of course that you test and validate any theme designs you are sharing or using with Multiply's Validator (check the box on the CSS page)
What is validation? It is a tool that checks your code for errors that could disable features on your site. In some more serious cases, Customer Service has had to correct or remove code because the errors in CSS prevented access to the CSS section to remove the code along with disabling other features.
So you can see where this tool will become invaluable to each user. However, the CSS Validator is the only change there.
The CSS Editing Feature was always there for edits only . This is only to clear up the misconceptions that have been realized about this feature for theme designers and users who make their own themes. Because base themes are updated by Multiply on a regular basis as necessary, using unedited portions (the entire base theme) has never been recommended for this reason.
However, if you wish to view the current base themes at any time, for the purpose of learning the portions of css code that are already installed when you choose a theme, CLICK HERE. Then, click on the image of each theme and the link is there to the base theme codes that Multiply maintains.
Once again - this is not a change. This has always been the purpose of the CSS Editor Feature.

The following is a list of items that should NOT be tampered with on any site or group theme, when customizing, that renders these items blocked, hidden, obscured or unusable. This includes OPAQUING ads! (There are themes here still doing this and it's against the Terms!

SAVE YOUR THEME FIRST BEFORE USING!
You may not realize it, but JUST copy and pasting theme codes from this group today does not ensure that it will be working tomorrow! You may also see a theme you wish to use at a later date only to find it's not here.
ALWAYS do the following before using any theme here.
1. COPY the theme's post and css code to NOTEPAD and save it on your computer.
2. SAVE every image file to your computer first, and then upload to an album on your site here.
3. CHANGE the image properties url from the ones in the css here now to the new ones from your album.
4. ONLY THEN will your theme be guaranteed to still be available for your use.
Images hosted on other sites (photobucket for instance) can be gone tomorrow. So using the codes here AS IS is NOT recommended. Posts here can be deleted too. So you must save and host the images yourself.
FINALLY - IF you have ANY feature issues of Multiply, ESPECIALLY changing your headshot, remove all css and restore one of the base themes. That should restore your features and you may have to use a different theme.
NOTICE THIS IN THE TERMS PLEASE:
"blocks, removes or otherwise obscures the display of advertisements that appear on Multiply, or attempts to do so;"
PLEASE NOTE THIS EDIT: OBSURING ADS BY "SOFTENING" (USING OPACITY TECHNIQUES USED TO LESSEN THE APPEARANCE OF THE ADS) IS A TERM VIOLATION ALSO. MANY THEMES POSTED AND USED ARE USING THIS TECHNIQUE. PLEASE REMOVE ALL REFERENCES TO THE ADS IN ANY THEME YOU ARE USING OR HAVE POSTED.
All members AND theme authors should already be aware that you are not allowed to do any manipulation of a theme that involves removing, hiding OR OBSCURING the ADs on a homepage, that show in the right rail. (And possibly elsewhere) This is what funds Multiply to allow you to enjoy their services.
Posting any theme that removes/hides/obscures these ads, may cause action that could involve having members (and possibly you) lose their Multiply Accounts. By posting any theme that affects ads, you are effectively putting other members' accounts at risk. Doing so can also cause themes to malfunction, and certain features disabled. Many are having to change themes for this reason. (There may be errors in your coding that can also cause themes to not work too so if your theme doesn't work, this may not be the reason).
Themes have been found here that involve removing/hiding/OBSCURING Ads. Some have already been removed and the Theme Author(s) contacted. IF you have this included in your themes posted here, you are required to immediately correct your theme or remove it. Any themes found that manipulate the ads will be deleted and this action reported.
If you are using any Theme from here that has manipulated the ADS' area of a theme, please contact an admin so this theme can be removed and choose another theme to protect your Multiply Account.
So please, do not put your or other members's accounts at risk !
Thank you.
It seems that many custom themes are preventing the users to see their content and links. If your are a Customized Theme author, exercise caution when creating a custom theme and make sure all the content (titles, navigation menu, image placeholders, etc) and the user links to create/edit the content is available. Test your theme before publishing. We do not support the removal of any Multiply link on pages: they exist for a reason, and should be available in the page. If you are an Customized Theme user and you cannot see your content, try using one of the base themes first to see if your issue goes away. Or try this: http://usersupport.multiply.com/journal/item/34/How_to_Fix_a_Problem_in_your_Main_Page
No spam/advertising is tolerated in this group. This is forbidden according to the Multiply Terms of Use ( http://multiply.com/info/tos). Also, the Blog section of the group is for admins and theme authors only. If you have any question about the themes, ask it in the theme post (theme thread) so the author can help you. Welcome everyone! As we all know, Multiply has a lot of features that we love. We can post many things, like photos, blogs, videos, music, etc and better, we can control to whom these posts should be viewed, which makes Multiply excellent to share your life with your family, friends and people you know. Also, Multiply let’s us to do customizations on our user page, which make this experience even more personal, as your page could look as your desire.
There are many customizations you can do on your page. One of the basics is to change the look and feel of it by selecting a theme for it. You can do that easily by selecting one of the available themes on the Theme selection page.
A few months ago, Multiply removed all storage limits and allowed all users to do extra customizations via CSS. Since then, many questions about how to use or change the CSS have been made.
Changes on the CSS are not easy for regular users. In the other hand, many users have knowledge on how to change the CSS and would love to share their designs. Why not to make a “bridge” between them? That’s why this group has born.
Have an incredible design? SHARE WITH US!. If you are willing to share your design with us, you are welcome to do it! We are waiting for your contribution! To make everyone’s sharing experience as enjoyable as possible, please read the Group Rules and Guidelines for posting Themes. By sharing your design here you may be contacted by Multiply staff to share your design on the standard theme selection page! Isn’t that cool?
If you are a user, we are sure that the theme designer would love your feedback. If you find out something that you loved, have a suggestion or question about the theme, do that on the theme’s post. If you have a general question post a note on the group. You may also find help here.
As this group is mantained by multiply users, just like you, you should not ask to teach you on how to build or customize your own page. Also, it is not to request themes. It is to SHARE READY-TO-USE customized themes ONLY. If you are looking for answers on how to customize your themes, please join http://multiplydesign.multiply.com.
I am a Multiply user and I am excited with the idea of having new customized themes available soon. I hope you enjoy this group.
Rogerio
